Step #1 Get Pre-Approved First
Because lending rules have changed so much and continue to modify almost weekly between Fannie/Freddie and individual investors, it’s important to talk to someone first. A realtor will also require that you are preapproved first before seeing homes. Step #2 Become Educated
Technology is a wondful too especially for Real Estate. Everything is accessable online, Free Property searches, valuations, EContracts, subscriptions, blogs, etc. Problem is only a fraction of that info is useful to your needs. Loan programs are numerous and constantly changing rates and terms are advertised, but with no context. Properties pop up and then disappear. #3 Work with the Best
I have been in this business since 1999 and I love what I’m doing so much that I got my Real Estate Licence back in 2003. Due to regulatory changes I had to deactivate my Real Estate license in Nov 2009 but have a wealth of information (and experience) about the Real Estate transaction which very few lenders have. #4 Have fun shopping
Truthfully, the job of a loan officer isn’t too glamorous since it’s a lot of computer work, communication, number crunching and coordinating. But what is fun is hearing about your likes and dislikes, finding a gem at a good price, getting an offer accepted, locking in a great rate, having a smooth closing, and finally getting moved in. You don’t get to do this too often, so enjoy the ride!
